What an awesome book! I really enjoyed this story with all its unexpected twists and turns. I couldn't figure out what was coming next, and there were sure a lot of things in this book that were surprising. The story is about a widow who lost her husband a year before because of cancer. Other people died around her before that. A miscarriage. Her mother, and her dad. In the friendship department, she has few people for support. Then, as she's getting rid of her stuff through a garage sale, a bust of Elvis is removed from a box in her attic. As she removes all the paper, she finds a letter from her now-deceased husband, telling her how he had acquired this statue, and that he wanted her to return this item to Memphis.
So on this road trip, she places Elvis' bust in the back seat, the only place it will fit. It makes a lot of heads turn and stare as you can imagine.
This story has many ups and downs, and Leanna Ellis has a way of making conversations between the people on the journey come alive. Each chapter is the title to one of Elvis' songs. The ride in the city of Memphis takes us to many places and brings out how important Elvis is, and includes a tour of Graceland.
It is a clean story with the characters being Christians.

Elvis Takes a Back Seat edition by Leanna Ellis Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
A winding path full of secrets that really aren't secrets and characters that are weird. Supposedly leading the reader to Faith but somehow falling short of the destination. Of course there was also the obligatory guy that had always been in love with the gal and just waiting to "catch her when she falls" and yet it isn't' really a romance either. Just a strange kind of story.
This was a free book I got years ago on my kindle and finally got around to reading it. I am not an Elvis fan by any means and put it off for the reasons of that. The book was actually a nice story about a family refinding themselves on a forced trip to return a bust of Elvis. It started off kind of slow but I got to like the characters more as the story went on.
I picked this book up when it was free for , so I was not surprised with the religious undertones, as many of the free books are. I usually focus more on the storyline and this was no exception. I enjoyed the story, the whole premise was pretty comical to envision these 3 ladies travelling with this huge Elvis in the back seat. I did, though, find the story very predictable. Without ruining it for any readers looking at this, I had all the "twists" figured out from the beginning. But all in all, it was okay.
Elvis takes a back seat is a journey of self discovery for our heroine Claudia. She's a young widow who feels life has dealt her a bad hand. She has had loss after loss and she has nothing without her husband. As she goes on the journey to return her husband's Elvis statue to the rightful owner she learns more about herself and those around her whom she trusts .Secrets come to light and the past becomes the present as the author Leanna Ellis leads us through Claudia's journey .This book is a book about family and how each one of us connects and interacts with those around us. Elvis Takes A Back Seat is a lovely heartwarming story I truly enjoyed. I look forward to reading more form this author.
This is the kind of book I can get lost in...and did! Ms. Ellis created a wonderful combination of sights, sounds, smells and conversation of everyday people. The characters are very believable and I think almost everyone can relate to at least one of them. The problems are real, the situations entertaining. The flashbacks, and there's a few, fit well into the story, adding to it, not taking away from it. When I was forced to put this down, I couldn't wait to pick up my and read more.
Buy the book, hop in the Caddie and enjoy a trip to Memphis' sites and sounds. One bit of caution, once you get about 40% through the book, find a box of tissues and keep reading. I will be sampling the other writings of Leanna Ellis.
I purchased this book by accident, but after reading the description and then the first few chapters I decided to go ahead and read the whole book. What I liked most about this book is that it deals with some harsh realities but the characters cope with them by encouraging each other and helping each other find their faith. I was as sick of Elvis as the characters were by the end of the book but he did give the story a little mystery and he brought it all together in the end. I would recommend this book to anyone looking for a good story to remind them that we all face trouble...we just have to rely on God to help us make the right choices.
Elvis Takes a Back Seat is centered on three strong female characters at different stages in life, all confronting different life obstacles. The premise of the story is a bit on the hokey side, but that doesn't keep it from hitting very real and very sweet heartstrings.
The plot twists in the story are somewhat predictable (I anticipated the major one, and I'm not particularly good at doing that with most novels), but make for an interesting read. The quality of writing is good, with few if any noticeable typos (in editions this is HUGE). Additionally, moving between the characters and the storylines gives the novel a great pace that feels just about perfect.
While you don't have to be an Elvis aficianado to enjoy the book, if you are I think it would make it even more enjoyable as there is a fair bit of Elvis trivia sprinkled througout.
